Adswap Success Secrets
With your Zero cost list building plugin for WordPress you can get started building your own list immediately!
Before we get into the secrets of successful Adswapping it’s important to get clear on what an Adswap is exactly.
Contrary to what it sounds like it’s not swapping website banner ads with other people.
It’s simply this…
If I send an email to my list advertising your website you then do the same for me.
It’s all about email.
Let’s dig a little deeper into this and talk about how to use Adswaps to rapidly increase the size of your list.
The way Adswaps build your list again is simple. If I have a subscriber list of 1,000 people in a certain niche, and you have about 1,000 subscribers in that same niche, when I mail for you your list grows, when you mail for me my list grows. We now both have bigger subscriber lists. We both win!
You might be thinking that you need to have you own product and affiliate program to make this work. Not true. You just need a squeeze page offering people something of value in exchange for names and email addresses. That’s where your adswap partner will be sending their subscribers.
Your Adswap partner should also be doing the same, they should also have a squeeze page offering value where you can send your subscribers.
What’s the smallest list size you can start with?
You could start with just 100 subscribers, then just find others in your niche with a similar list size to yours.
Once you get started with with adswaps you’ll quickly be able to build your list exponentially.
Those 100 subscribers become 110, you find another adswap partner and your list grows to 150, you find another partner and your list grows to 200. And so on.
Repeat the process you’ll soon get up to 1,000. The bigger your list gets the quicker it will grow all at no cost. Just repeat the process over and over each time setting up adswaps with people with bigger and bigger matching lists.
This is free advertising at it’s best and most powerful! The only cost is sending an email to your list promoting someone else’s product (a small price to pay for a bigger more profitable list!).
Setting up adswaps sounds easy so far doesn’t it?
However, there are a few simple rules to follow:
1. Only do Adswaps with people in the same or similar niche to you.
There’s no point in mailing people free offers for things relating to model cars if your list is interesting in weight loss. Keep your mailings on topic and you’ll get the best results.
2. Don’t do too many adswaps.
Never forget the reason for people joining your subscriber list in the first place is to learn from you. They want to hear your views, your tips and your advice.
To solve this I recommend that you re-write those emails your Adswap partners ask you to send to your list in your own voice. Turn the adswap emails you send to your list for your adswap partners into useful free gifts and resources from you and your subscribers will thank you.
If you mail them the emails your Adswap partners send you verbatim you’ll loose your unique voice as it’ll keep on changing with every adswap mailing you do.
3. Always visit the links your Adswap partners want you to send your subscribers to. When you visit their links join their list and look at how they’re marketing themselves. When you do this you’re certain to get ideas for ways of improving your own adswap marketing.
4. Don’t jump blindly into every adswap that’s offered to you. It’s important to do you homework on your adswap partner first. Remember your reputation is on the line with every email you send to your subscriber list.
How do you find marketers to do Adswaps with?
There are a couple of ways of doing this…
1. Go to Google and type in the name of your niche market. Take a look at the AdWords ads on the right side of the results pages. Then look for those ads with websites that focus on building a list of subscribers.
Because they’re advertising in Google you know that they’re serious marketers who most likely have some kind of a clue about Internet Marketing. The reason for focusing in on those websites with a listbuilding focus you know they’re run by marketers with a list of subscribers.
Not all marketers know about the power of listbuilding or even how it’s done! So focus only on those that do.
2. Go to our Adswap forum here at BigSellingOptins.com and there you’ll find other like minded people to set up Adswaps with.
If you’re in an obscure niche it’s not likely you’ll easily find people in our forum so you’d be better of focusing in on the Google AdWords approach mentioned above. But if you’re in the Internet Marketing niche I’m certain you’ll find someone with a list similar to yours.
What’s the best way of approaching marketers for Adswaps?
Before you contact anyone you need to keep in mind that an Adswap is essentially a joint venture with another marketer. So there’s a right way and a wrong way of doing this so being prepared is the key to success.
The first thing to do is to keep your initial email to them short and to the point. They’re busy people and won’t have time to read long winded messages. They won’t have any idea who you are so keeping it short will ensure you get the most number of people reading your entire message.
In your first email give them proof of the size of your list, you could do this simply by sending them a screenshot of your Aweber account where it shows your list size (do the same with whatever service you’re using).
Give your potential Adswap partner an idea as to how many clickthroughs on their ad they’re likely to get if you mail for them. They’ll then get a feel for the kind of results they can expect to get if they agree to the Adswap with you.
Put yourself in the position of your Adswap partner, think as they would. Their main interest is in helping their list and boosting their own credibility (it’s not always about he money).
Customizing your squeeze page to your Adswap partner will go a long way to showing how serious you are about setting up an Adswap with them. Make it look like they’re giving their subscribers a huge advantage by giving them the information you have to offer.
Before you contact anyone have the email you’d like them to send to their list ready. So if they turn around and say “yes” you can respond fast and get the ball rolling.
A day or so before the Adswap is agreed to take place email them to let them know that you’re going to be mailing their email to your list. This acts as a way of jogging their mind and helps to ensure they follow through on their end of the deal.
Adswap best practices
Track everything you do. So you know exactly how many clickthroughs you’ve got for your AdSwap partner, you’ll also know how many clickthroughs they got you.
Then the day after the Adswap email your JV partner and let them know the result of your tracking no matter how good or bad they are. This will impress them and show you’re serious about the results everyone is getting.
If the results are good and you got on well with your Adswap partner ask if they know anyone else would be interested in doing an Adswap. It’s entirely possible they’ve done Adswaps before with other marketers so it’s always worth asking.
Over time you’ll build up a list of Adswap partners you can approach on a regular basis to set up more Adswaps with. The more Adswaps you do the bigger your list will get. The bigger your list gets the quicker it will grow.
